letter to governor

Dear Governor,
Why is that we are cutting back yearly on a program that was effective in eliminating teen smoking? Didn’t we sue tobacco companies in order to regain some of the money lost on in medicare for smoking related illnesses? Florida’s Truth campaign was decreasing the number of high school and middle school students smoking by about 10-20%. This helps to ensure as the younger people grow older and become on medicare, we will not need all of the medical assistance our grandparents have needed due to smoking. The ads decrease in teen smoking is also good because it is illegal. So why are we cutting costs on a program that saves lives, saves the state money , and helps to lower underage smoking?

I am a student at the University of Florida and I take a class on Tobacco Use and Abuse. It has taught me a lot that I did not know about smoking. Maybe a simlar clas could be provided for the state senators and representatives so that they will have slightly more informed decisions when they cut funding for anti –tobacco campaigns.

Thankyou very much for taking the time to read this letter.

Sincerely, Tracy Hallmann
